How it works
The operating sequence, end to end.
Frontier's Client Operating Plan is a Clarity product that creates the foundation for Alignment and Execution. Here's how it moves from direction to commitments the business owns.
- 1
1. Establish direction (Clarity)
The owner authors the plan. The application facilitates — it never silently makes decisions. Start with actual known operating conditions and define behavioral company values.
- Capture current reality: services, context, verified baselines, leadership capacity, owner responsibilities.
- Define three to five behavioral values with concrete examples and violations.
- Never let empty corporate slogans pass as meaningful definitions without owner approval.
- 2
2. Set the three-year destination
Define business direction, revenue targets if the owner chooses, team and leadership structure, service lines, operating capacity, and the owner's future role.
- Answer: what does an ordinary Tuesday look like for the owner three years from now?
- Save everything in the owner's own language.
- 3
3. Create the one-year operating plan
Translate the three-year destination into a measurable one-year destination with key outcomes, operational changes, leadership seats, and target dates.
- Every major outcome has an objectively verifiable completion condition.
- 4
4. Identify the current operating constraint
Distinguish recurring symptoms from probable root causes. The owner reviews and approves the final constraint statement before it drives planning.
- AI may suggest options, but must not declare an unapproved diagnosis as established fact.
- 5
5. Choose no more than three quarterly outcomes
Each outcome links to the one-year destination, addresses the constraint, has one accountable owner, a quarter-end deadline, a Definition of Done, lead and lag measures, and milestones.
- Initial planning caps approved outcomes at three.
- Require a change record for material scope or ownership changes.
- Never silently change an approved finish line.
- 6
6. Run weekly execution
Hold a weekly review that updates the record: status, lead measures, milestone progress, completed and missed actions, emerging issues, and next seven-day actions.
- The meeting updates the operating records saved in your browser, not a generated recap.
- Support issue escalation and recovery decisions for off-track outcomes.
- Don't automatically convert brainstorming into assigned tasks.
- 7
7. Close the quarter and replan
Review each outcome against its original Definition of Done and supporting evidence. Mark Done, Partial, or Missed. Record lessons and unresolved constraints. Decide whether work continues, changes, or stops.
- Don't automatically carry unfinished outcomes forward.
- Revisit the one-year destination and current constraint.
- Preserve historical plans and decision records.
- 8
8. Maintain the deferral register
Record what's intentionally deferred — with a reason, who deferred it, and a future review date. Deferred items never auto-promote into active priorities.
Start with actual known operating conditions.
Import existing valid planning work instead of recreating it. Allow unknown values. Never present invented company information as fact.
