What you're not doing this quarter, recorded
The deferral register
Record what you're not doing this quarter — with a reason and a review date — so it doesn't quietly become a priority.
A permanent register, not a backlog
Not This Quarter is a permanent deferral register. It captures what the owner has intentionally decided not to pursue this quarter, with the reason for deferral, the date it was added, the person who deferred it, and a future review date.
This is not a wish list. Each entry is a deliberate decision to focus the quarter on no more than three outcomes instead of spreading attention across everything that seems important.
Deferred items do not auto-promote
The platform never automatically promotes deferred items into active priorities. A deferred initiative only re-enters the plan when the owner explicitly chooses it during quarterly replanning — and only if it still matters against the current destination and constraint.
Review dates keep it honest
Every deferred item has a future review date. When that date arrives, the item resurfaces for a real decision: promote it to an outcome, defer it again with a new reason, or drop it entirely.
Without a review date, a deferral register becomes a graveyard. With one, it becomes a disciplined way to hold the line on focus while keeping good ideas from being lost.
